Pont-Aven is a town nestled alongside the river Aven which flows into the Atlantic Ocean at the popular seaside town of Port-Manec’h. After visiting the museum, why not follow in the painters’ footsteps by visiting the Bois d’Amour, Trémalo chapel, the harbour… To guide you on your journey, click here.
While you are here, we recommend visiting the Musée de la Pêche in Concarneau! This specialised fishing museum harbours many treasures such as the Hémérica, a fishing vessel built in 1957. This vessel, now permanently in dock, is accessible to museum visitors and is deemed to be one of the museum’s top attractions. It is the last in a series of 8 trawlers built at Ateliers et Forges de l’Ouest in Saint-Nazaire. To find out more, see the Musée de la Pêche website.

Nestled on the banks of the river Aven, Pont-Aven never fails to charm its visitors with its picturesque streets, its rich artistic culture and its delicious butter biscuits, the famous “galettes de Pont-Aven”!
From its humble beginnings as a small riverside trading town where goods transited from river to sea, Pont-Aven rose to become the Cité des Peintres in the 19th century, the favoured holiday destination of a colony of painters. These artists revealed this little corner of Breton soil to the world at large and earned the town its artistic reputation for many years to come. Pont-Aven continues to keep this tradition alive and today is home to around sixty art galleries and artists’ studios.
